Two requiems for the Lyon Opera Orchestra and Chorus: the orchestra’s 40th anniversary is an opportunity to take a fascinating journey through the history of the 19th and 20th centuries. The vast theatre of human and religious passions that Verdi devised in 1874 is one of the absolute masterpieces of the sacred repertoire. Richard Brunel and Daniele Rustioni have added another aspect, that of Theresienstadt concentration camp, where artistic life continued, even under extreme and uncertain conditions. In The Terezín Requiem, Josef Bor tells of the courage of the prisoners who performed Verdi's work in 1943, keeping the Italian composer's music alive even in the midst of horror.
