PERMANENT EXHIBITION The Montagnard Museum has been installed since 1977 in one of the oldest houses in the center of Les Houches. Through thematic rooms and three reconstructed rooms of the traditional habitat, it presents a collection of objects used in the past in the Chamonix valley for agropastoral tasks and for daily life. Two rooms host the temporary exhibition, renewed every year.
TEMPORARY EXHIBITION AUX HOUCHES : MONT BORREL AND LE MANCHOIR, FORGOTTEN MOUNTAIN PASTURES Until May 21st 2023 In the past, families from Vaudagne, a hamlet of Les Houches, occupied the alpine pastures of Mont Borrel and Manchoir in spring and autumn. This practice implies a particular organization, punctuated by the seasonality of agricultural work. With the decline of agropastoralism, these mountain pastures, exploited since the end of the Middle Ages, were gradually abandoned in the 1950s before becoming places for walking. The exhibition of the Montagnard Museum relates the memory of these spaces and of those who lived there, to better evoke their current evolution.
PROGRAMMING : Guided tours, animations and workshops for young and old are offered during school vacations.

From 08/04 to 09/05/2023 Opening hours on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 2 pm and 6 pm. Closed exceptionally on May 1st.
From 08/07 to 30/09/2023 Opening hours on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 2.30 pm and 6 pm. Closed on Tuesday.
