The Emparis plateau (Circuit n°15)
Isère ()
This almost 67 km circuit start in Bourg d'Oisans.
The site has been classed and protected since 1991, but you can make your way by car up the farm track to this magnificent belvedere, perfectly situated opposite the ice and mineral chaos of the Meije.
The many mountain huts, or réfuges, provide welcome rest, whether for a snack, a meal or a night. You can get to this unspoiled site from Besse-en-Oisans, having driven along the length of the Ferrand valley. Take care, as you will be driving along rough farm tracks at your own risk.
Once on the plateau, take the track down to the village of Mizoen and join up with the D25. Most of the mountain refuges on the plateau can be accessed from the track. Walkers can leave their cars at the car park at the top of the track up from Besse-en-Oisans and continue on foot.
A final word of advice: don’t undertake this adventure lightly! The ‘’roads’’ are non-tarmacked earth tracks, intended for use by workers. Your vehicle must be in decent shape and have good ground clearance (without necessarily being a 4WD). During and after storms, these tracks become slippery, impracticable
and very dangerous.
