Revermont Museum

Cuisiat

Description

Nestled at the foot of the Jura Mountains, the museum offers you the chance to discover the cultural heritage of Revermont – once a land of vines, now of orchards and clay soils, used in producing Meillonas’ famous earthenware since 1760.

Located in the village’s old town hall and schoolhouse, the museum features a reconstruction of a traditional boys’ classroom from the 19th century. An authentic representation, complete with original wooden reading desks and benches, a blackboard with the day’s proverb, even down to the boys’ inkwells. Upstairs, you can see old class photographs and wedding photographs from 1885 to 1939; a collection of old games from across the region completes the scene and adds to the childhood section.

Outside, the visit continues through the botanical section, where you will learn about both ancient and contemporary uses of plants. More than 650 rare, regional, extraordinary and forgotten species of plants are grown in Revermont Museum’s vegetable garden and conservatory. Discover everything there is to know about apples and pears, vegetables, herbs and medicinal plants, cereals, roses and other flowers.

The museum’s focus is on preserving threatened plant heritage and passing it on to the next generation, highlighting the importance of biodiversity and passing down know-how linked to plant cultivation and its uses, creating a lively visit which inspires passion and curiosity.

Throughout the museum calendar, a varied programme of events based around the museum’s main themes offers something for everyone, young and old alike. So why not check out what’s going on?
