Fine Arts and Archaeology Museum
Vienne
The museum was opened in 1895. From this period it has kept some of the display cases, as well as a highly concentrated presentation of collections and a remarkable painting room, where the paintings are hung very close together and cover the walls completely.
Collections from the Neolithic period to the 20th century are displayed in three rooms. The Roman period (from the late 2nd century BC) includes several masterpieces, such as the St Blandine repository, the gilded bronze Dolphin, the silver treasure from Place Camille Jouffray and the bronze statue of Pacatianus. The Middle Ages are represented by a collection of Vienne ceramics. The collection of French faience is one of the most important in the Rhône-Alpes region. Lastly, the painting room includes works from the 16th to the 19th century.
