700 BC. J-C, the Celtic Druids were organizing processions on the island, called "Hoya" to practice their rites. Since Roman times, it was their refuge and also for the persecuted Christians. It was renamed "Insula Barbara". In the 12th, the church welcomes pilgrims and visited by numerous kings and queens of France. It houses numerous Romanesque capitals and sculptures inspired by the medieval bestiary. Sold after the Revolution, it is then classified, National Property in the 18th century. The restoration, by the association "Friends of Ile Barbe" unfortunately is not completed, the tower threatened to collapse.
