Le Télégraphe Chappe ( renovated between 1981 and 1984) is a square building measuring 4 metres wide and 7 metres high made of golden stones, surmounted by a structure consisting of three movable arms designed for the generation and transmission of coded optical signals. This tower, the 55th station of the 58 stations on the Paris-Lyon line, was commissioned in 1805 and was later expanded to Venice. This incredible means of communication, invented by Claude Chappe in 1793, became obsolete in 1852. The 5,000 km long french telegraph network with 535 stations served 29 cities. Interpretation and information panels placed outside help to understand the operation of the tower and the telegraph network even when the tower is closed.
