Rando trail N° 15 Tour du Plateau d'Emparis

This 43.3 km maratrail with 3600 m of height gain is a great opportunity to explore the fabulous Emparis Plateau and its lakes in the heart of the Ferrand Valley. . This is a magical location for a run that rarely descends lower than 2000 m altitude, with the added bonus of fabulous views over the Meije and its glaciers. Points of interest include the flower-filled, traditional village of Besse, the Maison des Alpages, which is a small museum well worth a visit depicting local pastoralism and and the oven that is still being used at the far end of the village. Tarts, brioches and a range of hand-kneaded breads are still baked in a wood fired oven!

IMPORTANT: The Emparis plateau is part of the Natura 2000 network and the maratrail passes through sections that are home to rare and fragile animal and plant species, some of which are even on the verge of extinction.
